Quick and Easy Hot Chocolate Float

I’m sure you’ve seen the hot chocolate bombs that have been going crazy all over. And while hot chocolate bombs are pretty cool, I have been enjoying a different hot chocolate drink. A hot chocolate float!

Hot chocolate floats don’t require any molds or equipment. Plus they are quick and easy to make and taste delicious!

What you might ask is a hot chocolate float? It’s very similar to that classic root beer float you probably enjoyed growing up.

Hot Chocolate Float

The first step in making your hot chocolate float is making the hot chocolate. You can make homemade hot chocolate or just make up one of your favorite hot coco mixes.

chocolate is always the answer mug

I typically keep it simple and use whatever hot coco mix I have on hand and mix it with water. I like to make sure to use extra hot coco mix so it’s just a little extra chocolatey.

You’re going to want to make your hot chocolate extra hot and extra chocolatey for your float. The just barely above warm temperature just won’t work as well.

Once your hot chocolate is made nice and hot it’s time to get your mug and ice cream ready.

Put a scoop of ice cream in your mug and pour the hot chocolate over the top. Let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute for the ice cream to start melting.

When you take a sip you should get a nice extra creamy hot chocolate that’s just the right temperature.

What Flavors of Hot Chocolate Floats Can You Make?

The classic hot chocolate float would be made with milk chocolate hot coco and mixed with vanilla ice cream.

But you definitely don’t have to stick with the classic, even though it’s delicious. You can always switch up the ice cream flavor or the hot chocolate flavor.

A few delicious combos are:

  • Classic hot chocolate with mint chip ice cream
  • Classic or White hot chocolate with peppermint ice cream
  • Classic hot chocolate with Chocolate ice cream (for an extra chocolaty drink)

Don’t limit yourself to just these flavor suggestions, there really are tons of different flavor options for a delicious Hot Chocolate Float.
